Shenwei·Taihuzhiguangsupercomputerisoneofthemajorprojectssupportedbythenational863planinthefieldofinformationtechnology.ItwasestablishedbytheMinistryofScienceandTechnologyin2014.TherequirementoftheMinistryofScienceandTechnologyistobuildaworld-classsupercomputerandaworld-classsupercomputer.Thesupercomputingcenter.

TheShenwei·Taihuzhiguangsupercomputerconsistsof40computingcabinetsand8networkcabinets.Eachcomputingcabinetisslightlylargerthanahouseholdtwo-doorrefrigerator.Openthecabinetdoorand4supernodescomposedof32computingplug-insaredistributedinit.Eachplug-inconsistsof4computingnodeboards,andonecomputingnodeboardcontains2"Shenwei26010"high-performanceprocessors.Acabinethas1024processors,andtheentire"Shenwei·LightofTaihuLake"hasatotalof40960processors.

Shenwei·Taihuzhiguang"supercomputerhasalsomadesignificantprogressintheapplicationofresults.Duringthetrialoperation,TsinghuaUniversity,PekingUniversity,SoftwareInstituteofChineseAcademyofSciences,ChinaShipbuildingIndustryCorporation702,NationalComputationalFluidMechanicsMorethan30userunitssuchaslaboratorieshaveestablishedapplicationcooperationrelationshipswithSupercomputingWuxiCenterinthefieldsofweatherandclimate,aerospace,marinescience,newdrugcreation,advancedmanufacturing,andnewmaterials.Amongthem,threeareinthe"Shenwei·Theapplicationprojectcarriedoutonthe"Taihuzhiguang"supercomputerwasnominatedforthe"GordonBellPrize".The"GordonBellPrize"establishedin1987isknownasthe"NobelPrize"inthefieldofhigh-performancecomputerapplications.ThisisChinaThesubjectofhumanapplicationondomesticsupercomputerswasshortlistedforthe"GordonBellAward"forthefirsttime.ThismajorbreakthroughmarksthattheapplicationcapabilitiesofChina'ssupercomputershavealsoreachedtheworld'sadvancedlevel.

ZhangYunquan,Secretary-GeneraloftheHighPerformanceComputingCommitteeoftheChineseComputerSociety,saidthat"Shenwei·TaihuLight"isthefirstsupercomputerintheworldbuiltwithdomesticprocessors.ItisbasedontheMinistryofScienceandTechnologyofthePeople'sRepublicofChina.Thedevelopmentcycleofthe863projecttooknearlythreeyears,butthepreviouspre-researchtimecouldnotbeestimated."Infact,weknewattheendoflastyearthatthe"ShenweiTaihuLight"hadtheabilitytowintheworldchampionship,butitwasoutofsecrecyatthetime.Considerthatithasnotbeenreleasedtotheoutsideworld."
