Psychologyisthestudyofbehaviorandmentalactivity.

ThewordpsychologycomesfromGreek,meaningthescienceofthesoul.ThesoulalsomeansgasorbreathinginGreek,becauseancientpeoplebelievedthatlifedependsonbreathing,andwhenbreathingstops,lifeends.Withthedevelopmentofscience,theobjectofpsychologyhaschangedfromsoultomind.

Attheendofthe19thcentury,psychologybecameanindependentdiscipline.Itwasonlyinthemiddleofthe20thcenturythatpsychologyhadarelativelyunifieddefinition.

Psychology,asascience,beganin1879whentheGermanscholarWundtwasinfluencedbythenaturalsciencesinthepsychologicallaboratoryandseparatedfromspeculativephilosophyandbecameanindependentdiscipline.

In1879,GermanscholarWundtwasinfluencedbynaturalscienceandestablishedthefirstpsychologicallaboratoryatLeipzigUniversity,markingthebirthofscientificpsychology.
