Theschool’spredecessor
WuxiLightIndustryUniversity
ThepredecessorofWuxiUniversityofLightIndustryistheFoodIndustryDepartmentofNanjingInstituteofTechnology.ItsschoolhistorycanbetracedbacktotheSanjiangNormalSchoolestablishedin1902.IthasgonethroughthedevelopmentperiodsofNationalCentralUniversityandNanjingUniversity.TheeightuniversitiesofIndustrialUniversityandJiangsuUniversityareofthesameorigin.
In1952,theFoodIndustryDepartmentofNanjingInstituteofTechnology(nowSoutheastUniversity)wasestablishedbytherelateddepartmentsoftheformerNanjingUniversity,FudanUniversity,WuhanUniversity,ZhejiangUniversity,andtheprivateJiangnanUniversity.
OnAugust18,1958,thePeople’sCommitteeofJiangsuProvincedecidedtomovetheFoodIndustryDepartmentofNanjingInstituteofTechnologyeasttotheformersiteoftheformerEastChinaArtCollegeinWuxiCity(Sheqiao),namedWuxiInstituteofFoodIndustry,andlaterrenamedWuxiTheInstituteofLightIndustrywasestablishedonNovember17.
In1960,withtheapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,itbegantorecruitandtraingraduatestudents.
In1961,thechemicalengineeringmajorofWuxiIndustrialCollegewasmerged.
InSeptember1962,WuxiTextileInstitutewasmergedintoWuxiInstituteofLightIndustryandtheDepartmentofTextileEngineeringwasestablished.

Inthesecondhalfof1966,theheadquartersofthecollegemovedtoQingshanBay,andtheformerSheqiaocampuswasabranch.InMay1993,ChinaNationalLightIndustryCouncil,JiangsuProvincialPeople'sGovernment,JiangsuProvincialEducationCommission,andJiangsuTextileIndustryDepartmentagreedtojointlyrunaschoolbyWuxiInstituteofLightIndustryandTextileBranchofWuxiInstituteofLightIndustry,anduniformlyusetheschoolnameofWuxiInstituteofLightIndustry.,ThetextilebranchisunderthemanagementofWuxiInstituteofLightIndustry,andthelocationofthetextilebranchbecomestheXishancampusofWuxiInstituteofLightIndustry.
OnMarch9,1995,theChinaLightIndustryCouncilforwardedthe"NoticeonApprovingWuxiInstituteofLightIndustrytoChangeitsNametoWuxiUniversityofLightIndustry"bytheStateEducationCommission,andZhaoPuchuwrotetheschoolnameforWuxiUniversityofLightIndustry.
OnNovember23,1995,WuxiInstituteofLightIndustryheldtheopeningceremonyofWuxiUniversityofLightIndustryandWuxiUniversityofLightIndustryjointlyestablishedbyChinaLightIndustryAssociation,JiangsuProvincialPeople'sGovernmentandWuxiMunicipalPeople'sGovernment.
InOctober1995,WuxiTextileWorkersCollege,WuxiTextileIndustrySchoolandWuxiTextileWorkersProfessionalSchoolweremergedintoWuxiUniversityofLightIndustry.
InMay1996,WuxiUniversityofLightIndustrypassedthenational"211Project"pre-examination.
In1998,WuxiUniversityofLightIndustrywastransferredfrombeingaffiliatedtotheChinaLightIndustryCounciltotheMinistryofEducation.
In1999,withtheapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,theSuzhouChemicalPowerResearchInstitute,formerlyaffiliatedtotheMinistryofLightIndustry,wasmergedintoWuxiUniversityofLightIndustry.
JiangnanCollege
ThehistoryofJiangnanCollegecanbetracedbacktoOctober1947byChinaTheprivateJiangnanUniversityfoundedbyethnicindustrialistMr.RongDeshenginWuxi.
InJuly1947,thepreparatoryofficeoftheprivateJiangnanUniversitywasestablished,anditwasdecidedtoestablishthethreecollegesofliberalarts,agriculture,andscienceandtechnology.OnAugust12,theMinistryofEducationoftheNationalGovernmentapprovedthecasefortheprivateJiangnanUniversityboardofdirectors.TheschoolboardborrowsthenewofficeofWuxiBeitangShenmaoasitsofficeaddress.OnOctober27,theprivateJiangnanUniversityhelditsfirstopeningceremony.Atthebeginning,temporaryschoolbuildingsweresetupintheoriginalpublicwelfareironfactoryinRongxiang,Rongdesheng’shome,andMeiyuan.ThetemporaryschoolsitewassetupintheWuxiNationalStudiesSchool.Inthespringof1948,anewschoolbuildingonHouwanMountainwascompleted.
Inthefallof1952,whenthecollegesanddepartmentswereadjusted,theprivateJiangnanUniversityabolisheditsorganizationalsystem,anditsdepartmentsweremergedintouniversitiesinNanjing,Shanghai,Suzhou,andYangzhou.
InOctober1980,theWuxiMunicipalPeople'sGovernmentdecidedtoestablishtheWuxiUniversityPreparatoryCommittee,whichenrolled522studentsthatyear.
InJanuary1981,theJiangsuProvincialGovernmentapprovedtheestablishmentofWuxiVocationalUniversityonthebasisofWuxiUniversity.WuxiVocationalUniversityisafull-timehighereducationinstitutionaffiliatedtothecity.Itenrolled209studentsthatyearandborrowedthe37thfromWuxiCity.Themiddleschoolbuildingofficiallyopened.
InAugust1982,movedtothenewschoolsiteatNo.100LiangxiRoad.
InMarch1983,withtheapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,itwasagreedthatWuxiVocationalUniversityandWuxiWorkers'Universityshouldjointlyrunschoolswithtwobrandsandoneteam.
InJuly1984,thePeople'sGovernmentofJiangsuProvinceapprovedWuxiVocationalUniversitytoberenamedWuxiUniversity.
OnJuly1,1985,withtheapprovalofthePeople'sGovernmentofJiangsuProvince,WuxiUniversity,whichwasajuniorcollegeatthattime,wasrenamedJiangnanUniversity.TheschoolfollowstheprivateJiangnanUniversityschool,Zuo.
In1995,theStateEducationCommissionapprovedtheadmissionofforeignstudents.
August1993-March1996,theMashanBranchofJiangnanUniversity,JiangyinBranchofJiangnanUniversity,YixingBranchofJiangnanUniversity,XishanBranchofJiangnanUniversity,andMeiyuanNormalBranchofJiangnanUniversitywereestablishedsuccessively,AndrecruitstudentsinthenameofJiangnanUniversity.
InApril1996,theStateEducationCommissionapprovedJiangnanUniversitytobeupgradedtoanundergraduatecollegeandrenamedJiangnanCollege.
OnJune13,2000,theProvincialAcademicDegreesCommitteeissuedadocumentapprovingtheschool’sbachelor'sdegreegrantauthority.Inaddition,graduatesmajoringininternationaltradeareawardeddegreesbySoochowUniversity.
WuxiInstituteofEducation
September1955,WuxiSecondarySchoolTeachersAmateurTrainingSchoolcreate.
InMarch1961,approvedbytheJiangsuProvincialDepartmentofEducation,itwasrenamedWuxiTeachers'TrainingCollege.
DuringtheCulturalRevolution,teachertrainingwassuspended.
InFebruary1970,thecollegewasclosedandtheoriginalsitewaschangedtoWuxiNo.15MiddleSchool.
InAugust1973,withtheapprovaloftheWuxiMunicipalPeople’sGovernment,theWuxiTeachersTrainingSchoolwasreopenedintheWuxiNormalSchool.
InFebruary1978,theFifteenthMiddleSchoolwasabolishedandtheoriginalorganizationalsystemofWuxiTeachersTrainingCollegewasrestored.
InApril1981,approvedbythePeople'sGovernmentofJiangsuProvince,WuxiTeachers'TrainingCollegewasformallyrecognizedasateacher-trainingcollegeandenjoyedthesametreatmentasateacher-trainingcollege.
InJuly1983,withtheapprovalofthePeople'sGovernmentofJiangsuProvince,itwasreportedtotheMinistryofEducationfortherecord,anditwasrenamedWuxiInstituteofEducation.
InJune1990,WuxiInstituteofEducationmovedfromthesideoftheWorkers’CulturalPalacetothenewsiteatNo.80QianrongRoadunderShunkeMountain,Meiyuan.TheoriginalschoolbuildingwasswappedwiththeschoolbuildingofWuxiRadioandTelevisionUniversity,No.20ChongningRoad.BecameabranchofWuxiInstituteofEducation,mainlyengagedinin-serviceteachertrainingandprimaryandsecondaryschoolprincipaltraining.
In1998,theWuxiMunicipalPeople'sGovernmentdecidedtoimplementtheWuxiEducationInstituteasthebasis,optimizeandreorganizewithJiangsuWuxiNormalSchoolandJiangsuLuosheNormalSchooltoformWuxiNormalUniversity.
In2000,theMinistryofEducation,JiangsuProvinceandWuxiCitydecidedtoimplementanewmergerofthethreeschoolsaftermanystudiesonthereformofthehighereducationmanagementsysteminWuxiCity.
Afterthemerger
InJanuary2001,withtheapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,WuxiUniversityofLightIndustry,JiangnanCollege,andWuxiEducationCollegemergedtoformJiangnanUniversity.OnFebruary13,theestablishmentmeetingofthemergerofthethreeschoolswasheldontheQingshanBaycampus.
OnAugust1,2003,withtheapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,theWuxicampusofDonghuaUniversitywasmergedintoJiangnanUniversityasawhole.
In2006,theschoolpassedtheevaluationoftheundergraduateteachingleveloftheMinistryofEducationwith"excellent"results.Inthesameyear,itwasselectedastheNationalUniversityStudentCulturalQualityEducationBase.
In2007,withtheapprovaloftheMinistryofEducation,JiangnanUniversityandSoochowUniversityformallysignedanagreementtotransfertherestructuringsystemoftheLightIndustryChemicalPowerResearchInstituteunderJiangnanUniversitytoSoochowUniversity.
InJune2010,hewasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchof"OutstandingEngineerEducationandTrainingProgram"universitiesbytheMinistryofEducation.
InMay2011,itwasratedasa"NationalUniversitywithTypicalEmploymentExperienceforGraduates"bytheMinistryofEducation.InOctober,theWuxiMunicipalGovernmentandJiangnanUniversityjointlyestablishedtheWuxiMedicalCollegeofJiangnanUniversity.
InOctober2014,theschoolwasawardedthetitleof"AdvancedUnitfortheImplementationoftheNationalCollegeStudentInnovationandEntrepreneurshipTrainingPlan2012-2014".
In2015,theschoolacceptedthereviewandevaluationoftheundergraduateteachingworkoftheMinistryofEducation.
InDecember2016,JiangnanUniversitywasselectedasthe"NationalUniversityPracticeEducation,InnovationandEntrepreneurshipBase".
InSeptember2017,JiangnanUniversitywasselectedasthenational“World-ClassDisciplinaryConstructionUniversity”.InOctober,JiangnanUniversityandYixingMunicipalPeople'sGovernmentjointlyestablishedtheYixingGraduateSchoolofJiangnanUniversity.Inthesameyear,theschoolwasappraisedbytheMinistryofEducationas"NationalInnovationandEntrepreneurshipTypicalExperienceUniversity".
InFebruary2019,theschoolwasrecognizedbytheMinistryofEducationasthefirstbatchofhighschoolscientificandtechnologicalachievementstransformationandtechnologytransferbases.
InJuly2020,itwasselectedintothesecondbatchofuniversities'nationalintellectualpropertyinformationservicecenterconstructionlist.InOctober,itwasdesignatedasthe2020NationalIntellectualPropertyDemonstrationUniversitybytheStateIntellectualPropertyOfficeandtheMinistryofEducation.InNovember,itwasdesignatedbytheMinistryofEducationasthesecondbatchofpilotunitsfortheconstructionofeducationalmedia.
OnthemorningofJanuary31,2021,theZunyiResearchInstituteofJiangnanUniversitywasestablishedinMoutaiCollege.OnJuly11,JiangnanUniversity'sproduction,educationandresearchbasewasinaugurated.

《FoodBioscience》
《FoodBioscience》创刊于2013年,由江南大学陈坚教授和美国康奈尔大学JoeM.Regenstein教授共同担任主编,编辑部设在江南大学食品科学与技术国家重点实验室,为全英文出版的双月刊。期刊主要刊载食品科学与生物技术领域具有创造性的基础与应用研究的学术论文;报道食品领域新型研究方向的阶段性研究成果;扼要报道传统食品相关的基础研究;选载对学科发展起指导作用的综述与专论。

截至2019年9月,学校与39个国家、地区的190所高校及科研机构签订合作交流协议,28.6%的学生拥有海外交流、交换经历;学校发起并成立了“一带一路”高校食品教育科技联盟;与美国加州大学戴维斯分校合作建有全球首家以中华食品文化为主题的孔子学院;学校与全国50多个城市及中粮集团、光明乳业等多家知名企业开展全面合作。

校徽
学校校徽为教职员工和学生佩戴的题有校名的长方形证章,教职员工为红底金字,本科生为白底金字,研究生为黄底金字。
校标
校标造型宛如浩淼太湖中劈波斩浪的帆船,象征江南大学人奋进开拓,自强不息。同时又似一尊金字塔、一座高山,广博而高远,象征江南大学人肩负着攀登科学高峰、认知宇宙万物、探索未来世界的历史使命。标志下部卷动的波浪也像一摞书籍,可谓“书山有路勤为径,学海无涯苦作舟”,体现了江南大学人“笃学尚行、止于至善”的精神。
校标的标准色名为“江南绿”,象征雨丝浸润下的江南水色。沉稳的基调符合江南大学严谨的、以工科为主体的治学、办学特色。
校标上的江南大学校名,字体采用毛体“江南大学”(“学”字为简体),英文名字采用“江南”两字音译方案,即定名为“JiangnanUniversity”。中英文对照融世界性眼光和传统化特色为一体,表达了江南大学立足传统,面向世界,开拓未来的理念,寓意着创建国内外知名的特色鲜明高水平大学的决心。

学校校旗为白色长方形旗帜,中央分别印有江南绿色、规定字体的“江南大学”校名、校名英译全称和校标。
吉祥物
学校吉祥物为“太湖神鼋”,源于太湖地区“震泽神鼋”,象征着坚韧执着、勇于拼搏、奋发向上的精神。
辅助识别标志
江南大学辅助识别标志具有江南大学中“江”的首字母J的形。
隐有教育(JiaoYu)的意思。
外形整体为J,但却内含一个小写字母n,意指江南之南(nan)。
此标志设计流畅,灵动,简约,如一条蜿蜒曲水,充满江南韵味,且与江南大学主标志的浩渺太湖的回形构造有相互呼应的意味。
主图形还可以衍生出其他不同组合,在不同的应用场合变化产生出相适应的视觉美感。
配色多元,如红色热情奔放,绿色充满生机,黄色轻快明亮,昭示了崭新的蠡湖江南充满活力,希望的未来。
60周年校庆标识
标志主体由“60”和曲水桥的图标组成,“60”由“J、N”变形而来,其中“6”对称翻转后下半部分可与“O”完全重叠,因此整个logo视觉补充后成三角形,稳重且整体。“O”上下分割象征江南大学地处江南水乡,中间的桥洞下对应着简化的水波,组成“n”的内部空白的区域。配色以红橙为主,代表着活力与喜悦。

校训
笃学尚行、止于至善
笃,有笃实、笃厚、真诚之义。《论语·泰伯》中有“君子笃于亲,则民兴于仁。”笃学,勤学。强调要以求真务实的态度做学问,反对虚假与浮躁之风。尚行,提倡实际行动,尊崇实践。孔子提倡“讷于言,而敏于行。”北宋易学家邵雍《皇极经世书·观物篇》中有“尚行,则笃实之风行焉。”强调不但要在认识上有所提高,而且要身体力行。
“笃学尚行”,强调的就是知行合一,理论与实践相结合。“止于至善”,出自《礼记·大学》开首句“大学之道,在明明德,在亲民,止于至善。”强调通过不断进取,达到善的最高境界。
从“笃学”到“尚行”到“止于至善”是一个渐进的过程,“笃学”是基础,是前提;“尚行”是关键,是途径;“止于至善”是目的,是人生追求的最高境界。笃学尚行,止于至善,是为学之道,为事之道与为人之道的有机结合。
“笃学尚行,止于至善”,既传承了江南大学百年办学“论究学术、阐求真理、昌明国粹、融化新知”的文化传统,又融合了现代教育教学理念,成为江南大学教与学的行动指南和至高追求,成为激励、凝聚江大人的永恒的精神财富。

《江南大学校歌》歌词凝炼,意蕴隽永;曲调优美流畅,新颖大气;整首歌曲为带再现的单二段体曲式“引子+‖:前奏+a+b:‖+尾声”,结构层次分明,抒情与进行风格相融合,刚柔相济,活泼激扬。
引子开始逐渐奏响的铜管乐三连音旋律,象征着百年学府在新世纪之初吹响了“攀登”号角。A段为中速流动的领唱部分,讴歌江南大学历史悠久、特色鲜明的办学业绩和曲水流觞、风景如画的生态校园风光。器乐分解音型为主的伴奏与女声伴唱营造出太湖、蠡湖波光粼粼、宽广妩媚的背景形象。B段为二二拍进行曲节奏风格的合唱部分,着意烘托“笃学尚行、止于至善”八字校训,表现了江南大学在新时期与时俱进、坚定向上的信念。尾声是全曲高潮,采用混声合唱加领唱多声部丰满厚实的音响形式,表现了江南大学师生员工共同开创明天辉煌的坚强心声。
文化活动
学校每年实施“艺术课堂”大学生文化素质拓展项目、“书香校园·人文江南”阅读计划,举办“江南之春”大学生文化艺术节、“创新江南”大学生科技创新与创意创业文化节等特色文化活动,在校生参演广州亚运会闭幕式等大型活动;荣获全国高校校园文化建设优秀成果特等奖、全国高校“礼敬中华优秀传统文化”示范项目,艺术作品舞蹈《羌山红》获文化部“文华奖”。学校建有女足和乒乓球两支高水平运动队。其中高水平女子足球队荣获2017年、2018年全国大学生女子室内五人制锦标赛季军和江苏省第十九届运动会高校部冠军。
