OnNovember6,1949,theNorthChinaTaxationSchoolwasfounded.InFebruary1950,theCentralTaxationSchoolwasestablishedonthebasisoftheNorthChinaTaxationSchool.
InJune1952,theCentralTaxationSchoolwasmergedintotheCentralFinanceCollege.
Second,CentralInstituteofFinance,CentralInstituteofFinanceandEconomics
InSeptember1951,theCentralInstituteofFinancewasestablished.
InAugust1952,theCentralInstituteofFinancemergedwiththeeconomicdepartmentsofPekingUniversity,TsinghuaUniversity,FurenUniversity,andYanjingUniversitytoformtheCentralInstituteofFinanceandEconomics.
InAugust1953,theCentralInstituteofFinanceandEconomicswasrevoked.
3.TheCentralFinanceCadreSchool
InApril1953,theCentralFinanceCadreSchoolwasestablished.
In1953,Chinarecruitedthefirstbatchofpostgraduatesmajoringinnationalbudgetandfinance.
FromAugusttoDecember1953,theCentralInstituteofFinanceandEconomicswasabolished,andsomeofitsteachersweremergedintotheNationalPeople'sCongressandPekingUniversity.AllthestaffoftheformerCentralTaxationSchoolandtheCentralSchoolofFinance,aswellassometeachersandstudentsoftheEconomicsDepartmentofthefourschools,stayedattheoriginalsitetoundertaketheCentralFinanceCadreSchool.
In1956,itacceptedthefirstbatchofforeignstudentsinNewChinaandtrainedthefirstbatchofforeignstudentsineconomicsinChina.
4.TheHeadquartersCadreSchoolofthePeople’sBankofChina
InMay1954,theHeadquartersCadreSchoolofthePeople’sBankofChinawasestablished.

In1969,theschoolwasforcedtoclosedownandre-listedin1979.Second.CentralFinancialManagementAcademy
InJuly1983,theCentralFinancialManagementAcademywasestablishedonthebasisoftheCentralFinancialManagementSchool.
In1988,theacademywasestablishedindependently,butundertheleadershipofthePartyCommitteeoftheCentralInstituteofFinanceandBanking;in1989,thePartyCommitteewasestablishedseparately.
3.CentralInstituteofFinanceandFinance,CentralUniversityofFinanceandEconomics
InJanuary1960,theCentralInstituteofFinanceandFinancewasestablished,andwasforcedtoclosein1969.In1978Re-schoolinFebruary.
InMay1996,theCentralInstituteofFinancewasrenamedtheCentralUniversityofFinanceandEconomics.
In1997,financewasapprovedasthefirstbatchofkeydisciplinesoftheMinistryofFinance.

InDecember1998,theCentralFinanceManagementCollegewasmergedintotheCentralUniversityofFinanceandEconomics.In2000,theschoolwastransferredfromtheMinistryofFinancetothedirectmanagementoftheMinistryofEducation.
InOctober2003,thepost-doctoralmanagementofficeoftheformerMinistryofHumanResources(nowtheMinistryofHumanResourcesandSocialSecurity)approvedtheestablishmentofapost-doctoralresearchmobilestationforappliedeconomicsattheCentralUniversityofFinanceandEconomics,andin2004Therecruitmentofthefirstbatchofpost-doctoralresearcherswascarriedout.
In2005,itbecameakeyuniversityinthenational"211Project".
Since2005,ithassuccessivelybecomethehostinstitutionforChinesegovernmentscholarshipsforinternationalstudentsandtheinstitutionthatimplementsHanbanConfuciusInstituteScholarshipsandotherprograms.
InDecember2006,itbecamethefirstbatchofuniversitiestoconstructthenational"985Project"superiordisciplineinnovationplatform.Inthesameyear,theschoolbecamethe“NationalUniversityStudentCulturalQualityEducationBase”oftheMinistryofEducationandtheBeijingMunicipalGovernmentScholarshipProgram.
In2007,itbecamethefirstbatchofuniversitiesinthe"NationalCollegeStudentInnovativeExperimentalProgram".
InSeptember2010,theCentralUniversityofFinanceandEconomics,approvedbytheMinistryofEducation,launchedapilotprojectforcomprehensivereformofundergraduateeducation.Inthesameyear,theschoolbecameanational"FinancialApplication-orientedInnovativeTalentTrainingModelReformPilot"institutionandtheMinistryofEducation"ProfessionalDegreeGraduateEducationComprehensiveReformPilot"institution.
InOctober2011,theGraduateSchoolofCentralUniversityofFinanceandEconomicswasestablishedonthebasisoftheoriginalGraduateSchool.
In2012,itbecameauniversityjointlyestablishedbytheMinistryofEducation,theMinistryofFinanceandtheBeijingMunicipalPeople’sGovernment.InMayofthesameyear,itwasratedasa"NationalUniversitywithTypicalEmploymentExperienceforGraduates"bytheMinistryofEducation.
InNovember2016,hewasselectedasthenational"111Plan".
InSeptember2017,itwasselectedasoneofthefirstbatchof"DoubleFirstClass"world-classdisciplineconstructionuniversitiesinthecountry.
InSeptember2020,theGuangdong-HongKong-MacaoGreaterBayArea(Whampoa)ResearchInstituteofCentralUniversityofFinanceandEconomicswasinauguratedinHuangpuDistrict,Guangzhou.
