DuringtheWarofResistanceAgainstJapan,theschoolwasforcedtomovewestduetotheJapaneseinvasionandwasonceclosed.AfterthevictoryoftheAnti-JapaneseWarin1945,AnhuiUniversityresumeditsschoolinAnqingCityandwasnamedtheNationalAnhuiUniversity.FamousscholarssuchasYaoYongpu,LiuWendian,WangXinggong,ChengYansheng,TaoYin,ChenWangdao,DingXuxian,YuDafu,ZhouYutong,LuSimian,ZhangYi,ZhouJianren,etc.havetaughtorpresidedoverschooladministrationatAnhuiUniversity.
InDecember1949,theNationalAnhuiUniversitymovedtoWuhuCityandmergedwithAnhuiUniversitytoformthenewAnhuiUniversity.Thereare12departmentsofliteratureandart(includingChinesegroup,foreignlanguagegroup,andartgroup),history,education,law,economics,mathematics,physics,chemistry,horticulture,agronomy,forestry,andcivilengineering.Therearealso12departmentsinChinese,history,andgeography.,Mathematics,Physics,Chemistry,Biology,Forestry,ArtSpecializationandTeacherTrainingCourses.
InSeptember1950,theCivilEngineeringDepartmentandtheArtDepartmentwereadjustedandmergedintoNanjingUniversity.InOctober,thesealofAnhuiUniversitywasofficiallyopened.
In1952,aftertheideologicalreformmovement,theAnhuiProvincialPartyCommitteedecidedtomoveAnhuiUniversitytotheprovincialcapitalcityofHefei.Tothisend,theschoolestablishedaninfrastructureleadinggroup,andquicklydispatchedaninfrastructureworkteamwithXuLianchengandZhuShixiongastheprincipalanddeputysectionchiefstoHefeitoengageinthebasicconstructionofthenewschool.
InSeptember1952,theteachersandstudentsofFudanUniversity'steamajors,NanjingUniversityandJinlingUniversity'ssericulturemajorsweretransferredtoAnhuiUniversity,theEconomicsDepartmentofAnhuiUniversitywastransferredtoFudanUniversity,andtheLawDepartmentwastransferredtoEastChinaPoliticsandLawThecollege(nowEastChinaUniversityofPoliticalScienceandLaw),the1953and1954studentsoftheDepartmentofHorticultureweretransferredtoZhejiangAgriculturalCollege(nowZhejiangUniversity).
In1954,thecollegesanddepartmentsofthecountrywereadjusted.SomedepartmentsofAnhuiUniversityweretransferredtorelevantuniversitiesinEastChina.Atthesametime,theyweretransferredtosomedepartments,andsetuptwocollegesofnormalschoolandagronomy,andtheywereseparatedinFebruary1954.ThespecializedAnhuiAgriculturalCollege(nowAnhuiAgriculturalUniversity)andAnhuiNormalUniversity(nowAnhuiNormalUniversity)wereestablishedindependently,andtheestablishmentofAnhuiUniversitywascancelled.
In1958,theinfrastructureteamsentbytheformerAnhuiUniversity,thenewschoolbuiltoutsidethewestgateofHefeihasbeencompleted.TheProvincialPartyCommitteeoriginallyplannedtomoveAnhuiNormalUniversitytoanewlocationinHefei.However,duetochangesandneedsinthedevelopmentofthesituation,theProvincialPartyCommitteedecidedthattheNormalUniversitywillstayinWuhuandbuildanewHefeiUniversityinHefei.ZengXishengisalsothepresident.AnddecidedtomovethemaindepartmentofAnhuiNormalUniversity’smaindepartmentofphysicsintoHefeiUniversity,leavingonlyafewteacherstocontinuepreparingforthenewphysicsdepartmentinWuhu.Otherdepartments,includingChinese,foreignlanguages,history,geography,mathematics,biology,chemistry,etc.,onlyselectedafewkeyteachersandsomemanagementcadresfromtheschooltoHefeiUniversity.
OnJuly5,1958,theseventhmeetingoftheStateCouncildecidedthatZengXishengwouldconcurrentlyserveasthepresidentofHefeiUniversity,andZhangXingyanandSunTaolinwouldserveasthevicepresidents.OnJuly21,theProvincialPartyCommitteedecidedtoestablishthePartyCommitteeofHefeiUniversity,withZhangXingyanasthesecretary,andFangZhiming,thepoliticalcommissaroftheNormalSchooloftheNanjingMilitaryRegionofthePeople’sLiberationArmyasthefirstdeputysecretary.OnSeptember16thofthesameyear,ChairmanMaocametoHefeiforinspectionandnamedAnhuiUniversity.AnhuiUniversityisoneofthefewuniversitieswhereComradeMaoZedongwrotethenameoftheschoolhimself.
In1993,theAnhuiProvincialPartyCommitteeandProvincialGovernmentrespondedtothestrategicdeploymentofthePartyCentralCommitteeandtheStateCouncil.UnderthespecificorganizationalleadershipandstrongsupportoftheStatePlanningCommissionandtheMinistryofEducation,theydecidedtofocusonsupportingAnhuiUniversity’sentryintothecountry.project".
In1996,AnhuiUniversitypassedthepre-examinationofthe"211Project"department.
InDecember1997,AnhuiUniversityformallypassedthe"211Project"approvalandisthesecondnational"211Project"keyuniversityinAnhuiProvinceaftertheUniversityofScienceandTechnologyofChina.
In1998,the"211Project"constructionprojectwasapprovedbytheprovincialgovernment.Inthesameyear,LiPengandQiaoShiwroteinscriptionstocongratulatethe70thanniversaryoftheestablishmentoftheschool.
In1999,theStatePlanningCommissionapprovedthe"NinthFive-YearPlan"and"211Project"constructionplanofAnhuiUniversity.Inthesameyear,theschoolwasselectedasthefirstbatchofnationalcollegestudents'culturalqualityeducationbases.
In2000,AnhuiBankSchoolandAnhuiFinanceSchoolweremergedintoAnhuiUniversity.
InJune2001,onthebasisofcompletingthe"NinthFive-YearPlan"and"211Project"constructiontasksasscheduled,itsuccessfullypassedthenationaloverallprojectacceptance.Inthesameyear,ComradeWenJiabaocordiallymetwithComradeHeJiaqing,ateacherofthe"TopTenPovertyAlleviationScholarsintheCountry".
OnNovember7,2002andSeptember17,2003,theschool’s"TenthFive-YearPlanand"211Project"ConstructionProjectFeasibilityStudyReport"and"InstrumentandEquipmentPurchasePlan"passedtheMinistryofEducation.TheprojectapprovaloftheexpertgroupandtheinspectionandevaluationoftheexpertgroupoftheChinaInternationalEngineeringConsultingCorporationoftheStatePlanningCommission.OnDecember28,theQingyuancampus,whichcoversanareaofmorethan2,000acres,heldagroundbreakingceremonyandbegantosettlein2004.

InJuly2014,itwasratedbytheMinistryofEducationasatypicaluniversitywithgraduateemploymentexperienceacrossthecountry.
